Today's Christians take that story to be literal fact, when it is actually a metaphor. It represents the decision of our souls, to leave ultimate reality in order to experience subjective physical reality. It is a bit more complex, and difficult to really explain, but most won't even come close to understanding anyway...unless they are familiar with new age thought, quantum physics, and/or the books written by Neale Donald Walsch. *sm*
