Why does my stereo turn off at high volume?

It might be a lack of power issue that Mike said but also when a radio goes into protect mode its also protecting itself from the speakers. You might have a speaker or sub that has gone bad or is going bad. So when you play it at high volume the bad speaker is grounding out and sending the radio into protect mode..
