Where's the New England foliage, this year?

I've been seeing a smattering of yellows and golds, but I'm mostly seeing green. I took a 300 mile drive from Fitchburg/MA to Pomfret/VT, yesterday (pretty much a big rectangle loop) and only saw darker, muted colors. I didn't really see anything that made me want to pull over and haul out the camera. It's supposed to be peak time for Northern Vermont, but you could've fooled me. Am I too early, too late, or is this the best we are going to see (possibly due to the earlier drought, this year)? I'm hoping that I was too early.
