For those in Australia, what is your stance on the application of the death penalty?
I personally believe that it should be exercised only when the guilt of the perpetrator has been confirmed beyond all doubt. Furthermore, it should be only applied to cases of extreme violence or barabarous in nature, (e.g. and murder of a child), but not for crimes such as treason. This would prevent a government from producing false charges and evidence, merely to get rid of opposition. Finally, I believe that there could be some sort of final tribunal, whereby the perpetrator has already been found guilty and if the crime is deserving of execution. If they aren't, then they can receive life imprisonment instead.
