How do I ground my aquarium plants?

My plants keep dying because they uproot during water changes. Should I use a substrate underneath the gravel specifically for plants? Should I use some wire? Surprisingly enough, I cannot seem to find useful information on the internet for this stuff. I would also like to know what to do for grounding moss in the aquarium.
